February 16th Spring 22 Registration Party!

Well it won't be quite a party but we will have snacks! Our Peer Advisors will be available on February 16th the first day of registration between 11am - 6pm for anyone who wants advice on what classes to take in Spring.

Take Advantage of Being an Honors Student!! Take an Honors Seminars this Spring!

One unique aspect to being a member of the Honors Program is access to the 1 unit, credit/no credit Honors Seminars taught by the best instructors at Cal Poly. These seminars are designed to be engaging without a heavy workload. Its a chance to learn about something you might not have considered before. Don't pass up this opportunity! Consider HNRS 265 in Spring22!

HNRS 265 - Research and Information Skills for Honors Students. Click HERE to Learn More about this 2-unit Honors class! For more information about this course email Tess Loarie (tloarie@calpoly.edu), the Learning Assistant for the course. This is a great course to take to fulfil an Honors Elective requirement!

Are you planning to take HNRS 361 or 461 next quarter?

If you completed your Track experience (and already received approval by completing the Form in Module 4.4 of the Student Handbook) you can enroll in HNRS 361. If you have completed (or almost completed) your Senior Project in your major you can enroll in HNRS 461. Both of these courses are asynchronous. Enrollment is by permission only. Please email honors@calpoly.edu for a permission number.

I'm currently working on a group research project on social media marketing in regards to COVID. At this time, we're recruiting participants (age 18+ only) and it should only take about 5 minutes of your time. If your professor is offering extra credit for your participation, make sure you follow the google link on the last page to report your participation. Please note that this study will benefit students who are learning how to conduct a scholarly investigation in the field of Communication Studies in the class Coms 312: Research Methods. Want FREE Poly Royal Rodeo Tickets?

Wednesday night of the Poly Royal Rodeo week is for Cal Poly students only and will begin at 6:30 pm, April 6th, at the Cal Poly Rodeo grounds. The rodeo will be a whiteout, meaning that attire should be white clothing. There will be activities around the grounds prior to the main event (Gates open at 4:30pm). After the rodeo there will be a concert that will end promptly at 10 pm. After the concert, the cleanup committee will assist with the cleaning of the grounds: trash under bleachers, streamers, etc. We will offer FREE tickets to our volunteers (1 parent entry for volunteers under 18) to enjoy the show prior to cleanup. We will also sign off on any community service forms provided by the volunteer AFTER cleanup. We could also use help cleaning up after our Friday night VIP/sponsor rodeo and our Saturday night open rodeo. Both nights include a concert that ends at 10:00pm. Free entry will be provided for each night being worked.

Change the Status Quo!  February 26, 2022.

Registration for Cal Poly's 20th annual Change the Status Quo social justice leadership conference is now live! The conference is Saturday, Feb. 26th here at Cal Poly, and features a morning address from keynote speaker Hoda Katebi, as well as workshops, lunch, and a closing celebration. Tickets for Cal Poly students are $10 and tickets for the general public are $30, so please come support social justice efforts here on campus and Get Your Ticket Today!

Campus Employment Opportunities

NEW! The TRIO pre-college program, Educational Talent Search (ETS) has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Outreach Coordinator Advisor (OCA). The part-time OCA is responsible for assisting high school and junior high students who are low- income and are/or potential first-generation college to pursue post-secondary education.  This position provides academic advising, and in collaboration with the other OCA and Program Director coordinates all programs at ETS partner schools (junior high and high school)  in Northern Santa Barbara County and Southern San Luis Obispo County.

Teaching/Mentoring

NEW! Seeking Honors Peer Advisors!

The Honors Program is seeking students to be Peer Advisors in Spring 2022 quarter. This is a 1-quarter commitment involving ~2-3 hours per week. Responsibilities include being available in the Honors Commons for Drop-In advising hours 2 hours per week. In addition, Peer Advisors will work together to organize one workshop and one registration event during the quarter. To be a Peer Advisor you must have been in the Honors program for at least 1 year. If interested, complete the Honors Peer Advisor Application by February 25th. If you are selected you can count this as your Teaching/Mentoring Co-Curricular experience! 

NEW! Seeking Honors Learning Assistants!

We are seeking students who are interested in serving as Learning Assistants to Honors courses in Spring 2022 quarter.  If you are interested please complete the Learning Assistant Interest Form by February 25th. Learning Assistant responsibilities will involve assisting a faculty instructor in a particular HNRS course. Responsibilities may include facilitating discussions, preparing course activities, and answering student questions. Learning Assistants will be required to attend the class at its scheduled time.

If you are selected as a candidate, we will be in touch with you about your availability to be a Learning Assistant for a specific course. At the moment we are sorting out which HNRS courses will need Learning Assistants in Spring. If you are selected you can count this as your Teaching/Mentoring Co-Curricular experience!
