Apply to be a Food Pantry Garden Student Assistant!

The Honors Program is hiring paid Student Assistants to support Cal Poly’s Food Pantry Garden. This is a hands-on, event-focused role where students will help maintain the garden, assist in workdays/events, and engage the campus community. A great opportunity to gain valuable gardening skills while developing leadership, event coordination, and community engagement experience. The time commitment is up to 5 hours per week at the rate of $16.90 per hour. The position runs through the 2026–2027 academic year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively participate in day-to-day garden maintenance with the garden manager or on your own time (planting, weeding, watering, composting, along with harvesting and washing/preparing harvests for the food pantry).
  • Assist with planning, attending, leading, and setting up interactive garden events (workshops, planting sessions, harvest days, cooking/food demos).
  • Welcome and guide volunteers; demonstrate good gardening practices during group workdays.
  • Regularly meet with and communicate with the garden manager.

Honors Printing Perk!

Every quarter honors students can print for free up to 100 black & white copies and 50 colored copies. The Honors printer is in the Honors Commons.

Important Note About Honors Cross-Listed Courses!!

If you are planning to take an Honors GE this year use the Tentative Course Offerings link on the Honors website to see what Honors courses will be offered. Just because you see a course on your Degree Planner does NOT mean the course will be offered. The Tentative Course offerings list is the most up to date information on what will be offered. Although Honors officially has a lot of cross-listed GEs, many will not be offered.

REMEMBER! The only way to get credit for an honors course is if you register under HNRS. Just because a course is cross-listed does NOT mean it is an honors section. Honors sections are only honors sections if you can enroll under HNRS. Otherwise it is NOT an honors section and you will not get honors credit for the course.

Dr. J (Jovanovic) is looking for three Research Assistants to work with her on a project that focuses on how emerging adults narrate the meaning of a breakup experience. Ideally this is a 2-semester commitment. Students selected can receive 1-unit of Honors elective per quarter. Students from ANY major can apply! If you have questions, please email any of Dr. J's Lab Managers, Juliana Fiss (jfiss@calpoly.edu) or Victoria Sabol (vsabol@calpoly.edu) or Brooke McGrath (bhmcgrat@calpoly.edu).
