Cal Poly Honors Wins 1st Place at the National Collegiate Honors Council Newsletter competition....again!

In June 2022 we submitted our Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 Newsletters to the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) annual newsletter competition. Last week we found out we won 1st place!! NCHC represents Honors programs nation-wide which means we were competing with schools all over the US. This will be the 4th time we received 1st place in the last six years! Calling mentors* and mentees for the Honors Peer Mentoring Program! (*fulfills your co-curricular teaching/mentoring honors requirement) DUE NOVEMBER 30TH!

Whether you are a student who wishes to make a difference by becoming a peer mentor (2nd year and up for mentors) or you are looking to become a mentee (all class years welcome), please fill out this form and we will work on matching you with someone with shared experiences and interests. Importantly, please understand that any successful mentoring relationship is a commitment. As such, we require that everyone in the program participates for two quarters (Winter and Spring 2023). You will attend two group events with those in the Peer Mentoring Program, two Honors-sponsored events, and meet your mentor/mentee(s) two times each quarter. In addition to getting to build a mentoring relationship (and hopefully a great friendship!) with a peer in the Honors program, you will also get to know Dr. Jovanovic (Honors Program Director), Dr. Bennion (Associate Director), Jenni Duval (Admin Support Coordinator), and the Student Leadership team via our program events. And lastly, for mentors, this experience will also fulfill your Honors co-curricular requirement. Apply here by Wednesday, 11/30!

Funding/Scholarship Opportunities

NEW! Donald A. Strauss Scholarship. The Donald A. Strauss Scholarship Foundation awards $15,000  to as many as 15 outstanding students to pursue their projects of public service and social change. This is the 2nd year the Cal Poly students are eligible. To learn more check out the Strauss Foundation website. Applications are due January 24, 2023.

Do you have a creative or artistic side?

Consider entering Cal Poly’s Campus Beautification Initiative. Selected artists will be painting utility infrastructures such as utility boxes and similar infrastructure into canvases for works of public art in order to enhance the vibrancy of campus, showcase local talent, and deter graffiti. Applications are due December 31st.

Want to give back to the Honors community and make a difference? Become an Honors Student Ambassador!

We are looking for several students (representing all six colleges and ideally representing all majors) to serve as Honors Student Ambassadors! Do you remember wanting to know more about the Honors program and not knowing who to ask? What about wanting to know about which classes and which professors to take within your major? By becoming an Honors Student Ambassador, you can be that person for fellow Honors students. This is a relatively low time commitment with huge value – simply be willing to have your photo, bio, and email address posted on the Honors page, and answer the questions that come your way! This is also a great experience to list on a resume! Apply here by Wednesday, 11/30!
