Need Help with Winter Registration?

Honors is hosting two registration events this week:

October 20th, 11am to 12pm (in Honors Commons). Stop by the Honors Commons this Thursday for a Q & A session with more senior Honors students on degree planning and schedule building. It's a Brown Bag which means feel free to bring your lunch!

October 21st, 5pm to 7pm (in Nipumu). Join Honors student and Nipumu RA, Michaela Sadler and some upperclassmen Honor students as they teach you how to optimize Degree Planner and fill your college experience with everything you could want and more. Meet in the Nipumu living room/kitchen area. They will have a workshop on planning your next years in college. They can answer questions about the requirements, how to organize your degree so you are ready for registration, and everything else you can think of. Working this program can be confusing at first, so this workshop will give you the skills you need for the rest of your registration. Take advantage of this awesome opportunity before registration dates arrive!

Last Change to Order You Honors T-shirt!

We are taking orders for our super soft Honors t-shirts. T-shirts are $15. If you are interested, fill out the Honors T-Shirt Order form. Orders are due by Friday October 21st! On the form we ask you if there is other Honors merch you would like has to have avaialble.

Do you have priority registration for Winter 2023?

Cal Poly provides Special Exception Registration Status (i.e. Priority Registration) to first- and second-year students who are members in good standing in the Honors Program. Students with Special Exception status may register first according to Cal Poly's registration appointment schedule. See module 2.12 of the Canvas Honors Handbook to learn more about the requirements to be in good standing to receive Special Exception status. Special Exception registration for Winter 23 quarter begins November 1st!

Funding/Scholarship Opportunities

NEW! Proposals are being accepted for the Baker/Koob Endowments, which support hands-on, project-based learning opportunities for individual students and groups at Cal Poly. This year, approximately $65,000 is available with anticipated funding for 18-24 projects. All students are invited to apply for funding, which may be used for student support, student and faculty travel, student and faculty expenses associated with participation in student research, group projects, conferences, competitions, and equipment and materials related to student research. Completed proposals, including a letter of support from a faculty advisor, are due electronically to baker-koob@calpoly.edu by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. Email baker-koob@calpoly.edu with any questions. Campus Events You Don't Want to Miss!

NEW! Learn how to get an internship in Washington DC! Cal Poly Faculty Liaison for The Washington Center, a non-profit that assists colleges and universities around the country with placing students in quality internships in the public, non-profit, and private sectors in the nation's capital (housing included) will hold an info session on Tuesday October 18th from 11:10-12:00.  Students can join us in person or virtually. Volunteer Opportunities

NEW! Food Pantry Garden Work Day!! The focus of this work day will be to harvest the last of the summer and fall crops, plant the winter crops, aerate the beds/ add fresh soil to them, and weed pulling. Sign up on the Garden Work Day Volunteer Form for a time slot to help out!
 

 

Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Want to hang out with an elementary or middle school buddy? Come volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters! Earn community services hours by being a Big and supporting a Little in a mentorship this school year. The commitment is one hour a week from mid-October to May! Looking for Honors advising?

You can have your questions answered by our wonderful Student Assistants. They will be available in person (in the nipumu? dorm) and on zoom (by appointment). Find out more about Peer Advising on the honors website.

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

See Module 2.8 of the Student Handbook for more information about Honors required Co-curricular experiences. Please see the Co-Curricular Experiences link under the Current Students tab for the steps to take to fulfill this requirement. We will post new opportunities that you can consider for fulfilling these requirements as they come up.
 
Teaching/Mentoring

New! We are seeking students who are interested in serving as Learning Assistants to Honors courses in Winter 2023 quarter.  If you are interested please complete the Learning Assistant Interest Form by November 4th. Learning Assistant responsibilities will involve assisting a faculty instructor in a particular HNRS course. Responsibilities may include facilitating discussions, preparing course activities, and answering student questions. Learning Assistants will be required to attend the class at its scheduled time.

If you are selected as a candidate, we will be in touch with you about your availability to be a Learning Assistant for a specific course. At the moment we are sorting out which HNRS courses will need Learning Assistants in Spring. If you are selected you can count this as your Teaching/Mentoring Co-Curricular experience!
