Need Help With Winter Registration?

Honors is hosting two registration events:

Tuesday October 24th, 11:30am to 1:30pm (in YTT Community Room). Stop by the YTT Community Room anytime to ask questions and get prepared for registration.  Honors students will be there to answer questions about degree planning and schedule building.

Wednesday November 1st, 10am to 3pm (197 (Bonderson, room 104)). Priority registration starts Nov 1. Stop by anytime to ask questions or get assistance with registration.

Do you have priority registration for Winter 2024?

Cal Poly provides Special Exception Registration Status (i.e. Priority Registration) to first- and second-year students who are members in good standing in the Honors Program. Students with Special Exception status may register first according to Cal Poly's registration appointment schedule. See module 2.12 of the Canvas Honors Handbook to learn more about the requirements to be in good standing to receive Special Exception status. First years, you will learn more about registration and your Honors Requirements in HNRS 100 this quarter.

Important Note About Honors Cross-Listed Courses!!

If you are planning to take an Honors GE this year use the Tentative Course Offerings link on the Honors website to see what Honors courses will be offered. Just because you see a course on your Degree Planner does NOT mean the course will be offered. The Tentative Course offerings list is the most up to date information on what will be offered. Although Honors officially has a lot of cross-listed GEs, many will not offered.

REMEMBER! The only way to get credit for an honors course is if you register under HNRS. Just because a course is cross-listed does NOT mean it is an honors section. Honors sections are only honors sections if you can enroll under HNRS. Otherwise it is NOT an honors section and you will not get honors credit for the course.

Have you previously participated in the BEACoN Research Scholars Program?

The BEACoN team wants to host an information session and Q&A with previous research scholars to encourage more Honors students to participate in the program. If you are interested in helping amplify the program, please email beacon@calpoly.edu and say you want to participate in the event. Also, be on the lookout for the student applications opening in the coming weeks!

Temporary Spaces for Honors....

Until we have our assigned Honors Commons here is what we have arranged so far for Fall quarter:

  • Building 197 (Bonderson), Room 104 every Wednesday from 3-6pm reserved for Honors students.  This will be open to any Honors student who needs space to study, work on group projects, or just hang out.
  • You can still access the Honors copier in Building 116 (Jesperson), Room 212. The copier is connected to computers for anyone who needs to print. There is space to work if you need a quiet spot (see pic below)
  • Jenni's office is Building 116, Room 212 (with the copier!)
  • Dr. J's temporary office is Building 47, room 23F

As we reserve more spaces for Fall we will add to the Weekly Update.

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

See Module 2.8 of the Student Handbook for more information about Honors required Co-curricular experiences. Please see the Co-Curricular Experiences link under the Current Students tab for the steps to take to fulfill this requirement. We will post new opportunities that you can consider for fulfilling these requirements as they come up.

Teaching/Mentoring

NEW! We are seeking students who are interested in serving as Learning Assistants to Honors courses in Winter 2024 quarter.  If you are interested please complete the Learning Assistant Interest Form WN24 by November 4th. Learning Assistant responsibilities will involve assisting a faculty instructor in a particular HNRS course. Responsibilities may include facilitating discussions, preparing course activities, and answering student questions. Learning Assistants will be required to attend the class at its scheduled time.

If you are selected as a candidate, we will be in touch with you about your availability to be a Learning Assistant for a specific course. At the moment we are sorting out which HNRS courses will need Learning Assistants in Spring. If you are selected you can count this as your Teaching/Mentoring Co-Curricular experience!
