Welcome to the Weekly Update!!

It's going to be a FABULOUS year!!

A special warm welcome to our incoming first-time first years, new junior transfers AND our new group of continuing students who joined the program this summer.

What is the Honors Weekly Update? Every week we will post information you will want to know--upcoming Honors events, new course offerings, co-curricular opportunities, campus resources, job opportunities and more--so get in the habit of checking it every week.

You can find the Honors Weekly Update link on the Honors Website. Its a widget at the bottom of the Home page and also under Current Students link. Be sure to bookmark the website where you will find lots of helpful information.

Welcome Back Honors Event THIS Thursday 10am to 12pm!

This Thursday, September 28th, from 10am to 12pm, we will have cookies and apples in Building 21, room 133 (Eng West is across from Dexter Lawn). See old faces, meet new faces. Let's keep our Honors community strong during this quarter when we don't have a Commons! There will be student assistants there to answer any questions you have about Honors.

Update on Honors Commons....

Good news and bad news. The good news is that Honors will be located in a great location in Building 1 next to the UU. The bad news is the space will not be available to us until Winter quarter. This means that we must cope without a Commons during Fall quarter. In the interim, here is what we have arranged so far for Fall quarter:

  • We have reserved Building 197 (Bonderson), Room 104 every Wednesday from 3-6pm. This will be open to any Honors student who needs space to study, work on group projects, or just hang out.
  • You can still access the Honors copier in Building 116 (Jesperson), Room 212. The copier is connected to a computer for anyone who needs to print.
  • Jenni's office is Building 116, Room 212 (with the copier!)
  • Dr. J's temporary office is Building 47, room 23F

As we reserve more spaces for Fall we will add to the Weekly Update.

Take an Honors Seminar!!

There are still seats available in the Honors Seminars (HNRS 299) we are offering in Fall. Remember HNRS 299s can count toward your required Honors Electives. First years, consider taking a seminar if you have room in your schedule!

Need a permission number?

If you have completed a Co-curricular or Track experience and are ready to take HNRC 200-02, HNRC 200-03 and/or HNRS 361 email honors@calpoly.edu for permission numbers. REMEMBER we are only offering HNRS 361 in Fall23 & Winter24. HNRS 461 will be offered in WN24 & SP24.

Join an Honors Committee!!

We are looking for volunteers for a number of our Honors Committees. Its a great way to be more involved in Honors. Its also a way to earn your Leadership co-curricular! Read about each committee and then use the links below to apply! Applications are DUE OCTOBER 6TH!!

Newsletter: Are you interested in writing or graphic design? The Honors Newsletter is looking for people interested in either to work on the award-winning Honors Newsletter! Newsletter editors will get to know more about the Honors Program by working in a team of 6-8 people to produce a publication about the people and latest events happening in the Honors Program. Check out the Spring 2023 newsletter!

Food Pantry Garden: The Cal Poly Food Pantry Garden is looking for Honors volunteers!  Our mission is to provide Cal Poly students with fresh organic produce and opportunities to learn about food and nutrition education. We are looking for volunteers who have a passion for gardening, food, and community service. Experience with social media is welcomed but not necessary.

Events: For the Event Planning Committee, we are searching for dedicated Honors students who are committed to expanding and representing the Honors Program via socials, registration events, and other campus activities. As we are missing an Honors Commons this Fall, we need creative minds to help us protect our community and establish meaningful connections.

Marketing/Communications: The Honors Marketing/Communications Team is a great opportunity for anyone interested in developing their communication, creative, and outreach skills! If you’re into social media, video/photography, graphic design/communications, or want to learn, this could be a great role for you and an excellent opportunity to get involved in your Honors community!
