Need a Permission Number?

If you need a permission number please email honors@calpoly.edu. You do not need a permission number for an Honors Seminar (i.e. HNRS 299) or any cross-listed HNRS courses. But you do need a permission number for:
 
HNRC 200-02 or 03 (i.e. Leadership or Teaching Co-curriculars)
HNRS 361 (i.e. Track)
HNRS 461 (i.e. Senior Project) 
 
REMEMBER! We will not give you a permission number if you have not submitted your Track and/or Co-curricular form (see Handbook).

IMPORTANT! If you are planning to graduate in Fall 2025, please plan to take HNRS 461 in SP25!!! We do not offer HNRS 461 in Fall.

One unique aspect to being a member of the Honors Program is access to the 1 unit, credit/no credit Honors Seminars taught by the best instructors at Cal Poly. These seminars are designed to be engaging without a heavy workload. Its a chance to learn about something you might not have considered before. Don't pass up this opportunity! Research Opportunities!

The Honors Program is continuing a new effort to offer ever quarter the opportunity for students who want to "try on" research to apply to work with a faculty on a research project for 1 quarter. Students who apply and are selected will register for 1 unit of HNRS 400. This unit can be used as an Honors Elective. The time commitment for this 1 unit is 4 hours of various research responsibilities each week.

FOR SPRING 2025

NEW! Dr. Marni Goldenberg from the Department of Experience Industry Management is seeking applicants for the following project. Students from ANY major can apply!

Project description:

Interested in working with diverse populations? Love Farmers' Market? If so, this project is for you!  Students will join our research team to collect research at Farmers' Market this April for 5 weeks on the neurodiversity project. We will be building out a resilience room on Higuera Street and invite individuals who self-identify as neurodivergent to use the peaceful space/room. We will then ask the participants to complete a survey and interview assessing the benefits and outcomes of using the room.  We will be analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data during the last 5 weeks of spring quarter.  

Looking for students who have an interest and desire in working with diverse populations, as well as a desire to learn about data collection and data analysis. Data collection and data analysis skills are highly desirable. Student involved with this study should be available to collect data April 3-May 1 on Thur night between 5-9pm. Other meetings will be scheduled based on availability of the team.

NEW! Dr. Stefanee Maurice from the Department of Kinesiology & Public Health is seeking applicants for the following project. Students from ANY major can apply!

Project description:

Revising Course Policies for Equitable Learning. Dr. Stefanee Maurice seeks students interested in assisting with writing a literature review for a research project examining the impact of restructured course policies. Specifically, looking at the policies’ impact on students’ confidence related to the quality of their work, helping students prepare high-quality work that accurately represents their capabilities, and potentially lowering stress related to coursework. The qualitative data for this project has already been collected from previous courses taught by Dr. Maurice. Students interested in this project will work directly with Dr. Maurice and have regularly scheduled meetings throughout the quarter.

FREE Passport Opportunity!!

The Cal Poly International Center is partnering with CEA CAPA and all Cal Poly colleges to offer their fourth Passport Fair on Wednesday, March 5th between 10:00 am -2:00 pm, ATL Keck Lab.

Cal Poly students who have not held an adult passport will have the opportunity to apply for a U.S. passport book and, thanks to the generosity of CEA CAPA and Cal Poly's six colleges, application fees of $165 will be covered for up to 100 Cal Poly students. The application is now open! 

With the passport, award recipients will be able to explore the wide array of global opportunities offered by the Cal Poly International Center, including studying, interning, service learning, and researching abroad.

Campus Events!

Save the Date! Spring Graduate Celebration on June 4th!

Graduating Seniors we want to celebrate with you! Our Annual Graduation Celebration will be held on Wednesday June 4th, 5:00-7:00pm in the ATL on campus. Appetizers and beverages will be served. All graduating seniors (includes seniors graduating Winter25/Fall 25) and their family and friends are invited to attend! We will provide more details of the event in early Spring Quarter.

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

See Module 2.8 of the Student Handbook for more information about Honors required Co-curricular experiences. Please see the Co-Curricular Experiences link under the Current Students tab for the steps to take to fulfill this requirement. We will post new opportunities that you can consider for fulfilling these requirements as they come up.
 
Teaching/Mentoring

We are seeking students who are interested in serving as Learning Assistants to Honors courses in Spring 2025 quarter.  If you are interested please complete the Learning Assistant Interest Form by March 4th. Learning Assistant responsibilities will involve assisting a faculty instructor in a particular HNRS course. Responsibilities may include facilitating discussions, preparing course activities, and answering student questions. Learning Assistants will be required to attend the class at its scheduled time.

If you are selected as a candidate, we will be in touch with you about your availability to be a Learning Assistant for a specific course. At the moment we are sorting out which HNRS courses will need Learning Assistants in Spring. If you are selected you can count this as your Teaching/Mentoring Co-Curricular experience!
