First and Second Year Honors Students SAVE THE DATE!!

As a way of helping our new-to-campus 1st and 2nd year students get to know Cal Poly, we are holding a Scavenger Hunt this Friday October 8th. You will need to create a team of 4 first or second year students (HNRS 100 is a great place to make a team!). We will release 10 photo clues of campus locations at noon on Friday Oct. 8th. The first team to take a group photo at every location will win $30 CP Bookstore gift card for each team member. Follow us on Instagram for more details!

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

Officer in Splash @ Cal Poly. Become an Officer in the club Splash @ Cal Poly. Splash @ Cal Poly is one of many university chapters across the nation whose mission is to engage high school students in an educational setting with classes taught by college students on literally anything. Link HERE to learn more about the club and how to get involved. An officer position in the club can satisfy the Honors Co-Curricular Experience: Leadership (See Honors Canvas Handbook Module 2.8 for more on this requirement).

Student Art Advisory Committee Call for Participation. Campus Health & Wellbeing is redesigning their space to better foster a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive community environment. As part of this effort, they seek to install artwork that is representative of the state of California—primarily artists of color, queer and disabled artists, and is collaboratively curated with students and explores diverse perspectives, identities, and experiences. They are seeking students to join a Student Art Advisory Committee to help research artists, identify prints and artwork for potential selection based on the themes of Mental health, holistic wellbeing, and physical health; and to advise in the placement and installation within the Campus Health & Wellbeing footprint. They are seeking 4-6 students who can commit to meet four times during fall quarter, with the first meeting taking place the week of October 18th.  Participating students will receive a $100 visa gift card. Please email your interest to: Kimberli D. Andridge, kandridg@calpoly.edu and Catherine Trujillo, ctrujill@calpoly.edu by October 11th, 5:00 p.m. If you are selected to serve on this committee it can be used to satisfy either a Track or Co-curricular experience (see Dr. J if you apply and are selected).

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Student Curator. Kennedy Library is partnering with BAEC (Black Academic Excellence Center) to curate a component of a multi-space exhibition. "We Are:  Black Beyond Belonging" is a multi-artist, multi-space exhibition illuminating the significance of Black Art as a transformative agent in academic spaces. The paid position runs two quarters, fall and winter approximately 5-10 hrs per week. Previous experience in curation or art is not required, but a general interest is encouraged. Read more about the Student Curator position.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers needed for our Food Pantry Garden October 16th!

Did you know that the Honors Program takes part in a community garden that provides produce for Cal Poly's Food Pantry? WE NEED YOUR HELP! October 16th is our first Garden Workday! This is a day full of plant education, plant propagation, community building, and, of course, sustainability!

We will begin at 10am Saturday, October 16th on the grass outside the health center by the rock wall. Come dressed in something comfortable and something that you're not afraid to get a little dirty! Don't forget your water! Gardening gloves will be provided for volunteers.

If you can't make it on October 16th but you want to get more involved in the  Garden, please submit the Food Pantry Garden Interest Form. The Food Pantry Garden is managed by our very own Honors student, Chad McCormick (BMED, 3rd YR).
