University Honors Program

Live, Learn, Achieve

November 14, 2022

Want to give back to the Honors community and make a difference? Become an Honors Student Ambassador!

We are looking for several students (representing all six colleges and ideally representing all majors) to serve as Honors Student Ambassadors! Do you remember wanting to know more about the Honors program and not knowing who to ask? What about wanting to know about which classes and which professors to take within your major? By becoming an Honors Student Ambassador, you can be that person for fellow Honors students. This is a relatively low time commitment with huge value – simply be willing to have your photo, bio, and email address posted on the Honors page, and answer the questions that come your way! This is also a great experience to list on a resume! Apply here by Wednesday, 11/30!

NEW! Calling mentors* and mentees for the Honors Peer Mentoring Program!

Whether you are a student who wishes to make a difference by becoming a peer mentor (2nd year and up for mentors) or you are looking to become a mentee (all class years welcome), please fill out this form and we will work on matching you with someone with shared experiences and interests. Importantly, please understand that any successful mentoring relationship is a commitment. As such, we require that everyone in the program participates for two quarters (Winter and Spring 2023). You will attend two group events with those in the Peer Mentoring Program, two Honors-sponsored events, and meet your mentor/mentee(s) two times each quarter. In addition to getting to build a mentoring relationship (and hopefully a great friendship!) with a peer in the Honors program, you will also get to know Dr. Jovanovic (Honors Program Director), Dr. Bennion (Associate Director), Jenni Duval (Admin Support Coordinator), and the Student Leadership team via our program events. And lastly, for mentors, this experience will also fulfill your Honors co-curricular requirement. Apply here by Wednesday, 11/30!

*Note becoming a mentor can fulfill your co-curricular teaching/mentoring honors requirement!

Nominate Faculty for Distinguished Teaching Award by 11/24

Have you had a faculty that really made an impression on you? Someone you think stands out as amazing instructor? Consider nominating them for Cal Poly's Distinguised Teaching Award. The Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching at Cal Poly. Only students and alumni, those who have been influenced most by faculty, are eligible to submit nominations. As a result, faculty are encouraged to notify their classes and direct them to the nomination form on the Distinguished Teaching Award webpage. The last day to nominate a faculty member for the 2022-23 honor is Thursday, Nov. 24 — Thanksgiving Day. For more information, contact the Academic Senate Office at academic-senate@calpoly.edu.

Important Note About Honors Cross-listed GE Courses!!

If you are planning to take an Honors GE this year use the Tentative Course Offerings link on the Honors website to see what Honors courses will be offered. Just because you see a course on your Degree Planner does NOT mean the course will be offered. The Tentative Course offerings list is the most up to date information on what will be offered. Although Honors officially has a lot of cross-listed GEs, many will not offered.

REMEMBER! The only way to get credit for an honors course is if you register under HNRS. Just because a course is cross-listed does NOT mean it is an honors section. Honors sections are only honors sections if you can enroll under HNRS. Otherwise it is NOT an honors section and you will not get honors credit for the course.

Volunteer Opportunities

We will list additional volunteer opportunities here! These can count toward your Community Service hours.
