Moving Beyond "Divide and Conquer": What does it mean to "function on a multi-disciplinary team"?

This micro-workshop will help educators define interdisciplinary collaboration, create and manage interdisciplinary student design teams, and teach students transferable skills that will help them succeed in interdisciplinary environments. We will examine the challenges to interdisciplinary collaboration for teachers and students, and discuss specific assignments and strategies to promote learning and team performance…

Marie C. Paretti holds a B.S. in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in English. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech, where she directs the Engineering Professional Development Program in Materials Science and Engineering and Engineering Science and Mechanics. She is also the co-director of the Virginia Tech Engineering Communications Center. Her research interests include communication in engineering curricula, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration in the classroom, and design education.
